Replacing cooling tower fill sounds simple until the original tower drawings, fill model number, or supplier information can no longer be found.

This is common with older cooling towers. The equipment may have been operating for many years, while the original technical documents are incomplete. At that point, ordering a new Cooling Tower Fill based only on the old product name can create unnecessary installation problems.

Start With the Cooling Tower Configuration

The first question is not the fill width. It is the tower configuration.

The structure of the old fill is another useful reference. Look at the sheet pattern, corrugation, spacing, and overall configuration rather than judging the product only by appearance.

If the original fill cannot be identified, providing a physical sample or detailed photographs can be much more useful than simply giving the cooling tower model number.
